$5,000 road safety opportunity closing soon

Time is running out for local government and community organisations to apply for their share of $100,000 in NRMA Motoring & Services road safety grants.

NRMA Community Road Safety Grants offer local government and community organisations in NSW and the ACT the opportunity to apply for up to $5,000 each for projects that address local road safety issues.

NRMA Director Dawn Fraser said community programs needing a financial boost should get their applications in fast as submissions close at the end of the month.

"Grant recipients will be announced in November, which could mean an early Christmas for some organisations," Ms Fraser said.

"There are so many organisations across NSW and the ACT doing great work in the community that are starved of funding - it would be a shame if they missed out because they failed to get their applications in on time.

"NRMA wants to help these organisations fix road safety issues that are important to them.

"It´s all about education and awareness raising initiatives that tackle the local issues so obvious to those in the community.

"A little bit of money goes a long way when put to work in the hands of people who really know what is needed."

The selection criteria for submissions are:

  • Will this project benefit the local community and reduce crash risk?
  • Does the project have clear goals, outcomes and performance indicators?
  • Does the budget clearly outline how the funding will be spent?

Submissions may be for a stand-alone project or to strengthen an existing road safety project.
