Education Programs
NRMA is providing more for our younger Members than ever before. The line up of youth focused events in 2008 is packed with action, exhilaration, creativity and excitement.

Hand Brake Turn

Hand Brake Turn, which operates in Gosford on the NSW Central Coast, is sponsored by NRMA Motoring & Services and is about giving disadvantaged young people a real opportunity to get their lives on track and carve out a successful pathway for the future through a career in the automotive industry.

As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), Hand Brake Turn provides participants with the opportunity to complete an automotive course and graduate with a Certificate 1 in Automotive, and present their completed course vehicle to a Victim of Crime.

Hand Brake Turn offers TAFE-accredited hands-on training in motor mechanics, spray painting, panel beating, detailing and workshop safety.

The program helps young people get 'work ready' by offering work experience and advice to help participants perform well in job interviews, improve literacy, numeracy, links to employment and further education.

For more information on the course please contact Hand Brake Turn in Gosford on (02) 4323 6309 or Hand Brake Turn Head Office on (03) 9416 1104.

JumpStart Women's Automotive Courses

The NRMA TAFE NSW JumpStart program is ideal for women wondering whether the automotive industry is suited to them. The course helps distinguish those with a career-oriented interest from those just curious about how things work.

U-Turn the Wheel

The 'U-Turn the Wheel' program aims to address the alarming number of  devastating injuries and deaths in road crashes for young people especially in the under 21 age group in the Wollondilly Shire. For more information on Wollondilly Shire Council's U-Turn the Wheel

By providing its state-of-the-art Mobile Member Centre, NRMA Motoring & Services provides the program with a range of key road safety information as well as brief video clips that demonstrate the physics of stopping distances and seatbelts plus vehicle crash tests.

Community Road Safety Grants

NRMA Motoring & Services has committed more than $50,000 to funding grass roots road safety projects across NSW through the 2007 NRMA Community Road Safety Grants Scheme.

Successful grant projects will assist Local Government and incorporated Non Government Organisations (NGOs) address local road safety issues.

This year's grant recipients are spread across the State - south to Queanbeyan, west to Warren and north to Murwillumbah.

Some of the funded projects include:

  • Safe motorcycling in the Snowy Mountains
  • A safe driving program for youth in the state's west
  • An education based program to increase the number of young people wearing helmets
  • Driver education programs for 'at risk' Aboriginal youth

The 2008 NRMA Community Road Safety Grants will be launched in the first quarter of 2008.

Rock Eisteddfod Challenge

NRMA Motoring & Services (NRMA) is running a competition for high school students to design a road safety message for young people 13-18 years old. The road safety message can relate to cars, utes or motorcycles. NRMA wants to see road safety messages designed by young people. The safety message must focus on any of the following topics: alcohol, drugs, distractions, fatigue, speed, seatbelts and helmets. Young drivers are too often injured or killed as a result of a road crash. In fact, drivers aged 17-20 are three times more likely than drivers over 21 to be involved in a serious crash.
