NRMA reveals the Top 10 breakdowns

Flat batteries, keys locked in cars, electrical, fuel and ignition problems are the top five causes of breakdown, according to the latest roadside assistance figures released by the National Roads and Motorists' Association Limited (NRMA) today.
NRMA CEO, Mr Rob Carter, said NRMA's Patrols saved more than
156,000 stranded members time, inconvenience and frustration last
month across NSW and the ACT."The most common call out for our patrols was for battery
problems but there were about five per cent fewer this April than
last year - perhaps due to the later onset of the cooler weather,"
Mr Carter said."With the cold weather now settling in it is important for
motorists to check their vehicle's battery is in top condition
now."The second most common call was from people who had locked
their keys in their car. While this has actually decreased by
around six per cent it is worrying to find that the number of
children rescued from cars has increased from 103 in April last
year to 111 this year."Our Patrols also saw large increases in the number of calls for
fuel injection, engine and management system and transmission
problems for this period," Mr Carter said.Mr Carter said NRMA's success rate at getting members back on
the road remains high with 94 per cent of motorists in metropolitan
areas back on the road after the patrol has attended their
call."Road Service remains the heart and soul of NRMA. Members can
count on our patrols to be available 24 hours a day, 365 days
offering our legendary emergency breakdown services at a time when
they need it most," Mr Carter said.NRMA's Top 10 Road Side Breakdowns Apr-02Apr-01% changeBattery39,45541,525-4.98%Lockouts15,80816,831-6.08%Electrical12,95813,682-5.29%Fuel - Petrol7,2227,479-3.44%Ignition6,4627,048-8.31%Wheels & Tyres7,1127,0391.04%Cooling System6,4356,3860.77%Fuel Inj / EMD3,3562,95613.53%Engine2,8812,8052.71%Transmission2,3802,2814.34%
