Road safety and transport will be two of the main issues for
discussion when the Board of the National Roads and Motorists'
Association Limited (NRMA) meets with community leaders and members
next week in Coffs Harbour.
NRMA President, Mr Nicholas Whitlam, said regional meetings are
invaluable for the Board in gaining a better understanding of local
issues, receiving suggestions for improvements in the NRMA's
services to members and generally getting feedback."It's our chance to meet with local members and community
leaders," Mr Whitlam said."There are more than 65,000 NRMA members in the mid-north coast
region. They know better than anyone the local problems and the
potential problems which should be addressed now."The NRMA appreciate how important road transport is to regional
NSW, both economically and socially. What we all need is good
quality, safe roads - and the NRMA will continue to campaign for
funding for upgrades to achieve this."Also, we will continue to run safety campaigns for drivers and
passengers, as we have for many years during holiday periods."Mr Whitlam said the NRMA Coffs Harbour road service patrols had
attended more than 13,000 calls for help in 2001/02."Our road service patrols provide world-class emergency service.
While the Board is here we are keen to hear from the NRMA Country
Service Centres proprietors and others about what else we can do to
help NRMA members who live and visit Coffs Harbour and the
mid-north coast," he said.On Wednesday evening Board members will meet with community
leaders including the Federal and State MPs, members of the Coffs
Harbour City Council, representatives of a number of local
organisations. The Board meeting itself will be held at local council chambers
on Thursday 11 July, 2002.
