The National Roads and Motorists' Association Limited (NRMA)
confirmed the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU) had
this afternoon served a notice of stop work on the NRMA.
A NRMA spokesperson said that due to the late notification of
the meeting the NRMA had been unable to have the matter heard today
by the Industrial Relations Commission."NRMA is doing everything possible to avert the action," the
spokesperson said."NRMA has offered the union the option of paid split mass
meetings so patrols can participate without any disruption to our
services. The union has not accepted this offer."NRMA has also requested the Commission hear the matter at its
earliest convenience."NRMA is concerned about the lack of notification and
consultation from the union and the deliberately misleading
statements being made that management are refusing to speak to the
union."The CEO, Rob Carter, has offered to meet with the union on
Sunday if the union agrees to defer the action."If the unauthorized industrial action goes ahead thousands of
our members in Canberra, Newcastle, Wollongong and Sydney will be
seriously inconvenienced as they head out onto the roads on the
first day of school holidays."Members outside the metropolitan areas will not be affected by
the action.
