NRMA's 100,500 members living in Canberra have until next week
to have their say in the organisation's most important meeting in
its 82-year history.
National Roads and Motorists' Association Limited (NRMA)
President, Mrs Maree Callaghan, said the future of the organisation
was in the hands of NRMA's two million members."The Special General Meeting (SGM) of members on 17 October will
consider and vote on two motions, with each one seeking to remove a
group of NRMA Board directors," Mrs Callaghan said."While the meeting has been called by less than 0.005 per cent
of the NRMA membership, NRMA is owned by its members and it is
important that everyone has their say."Mrs Callaghan said all members should participate in the process
so that the minority of the membership does not decide the future
of the organisation."It's your NRMA. Please carefully read the SGM voting pack that
has been sent to you and have your say," Mrs Callaghan said."Those who cherish the NRMA and what it stands for should
vote."The more members who vote, the more likely the wishes of the
broader membership will be represented rather that the few hundred
people who have pressed for the meeting."Mrs Callaghan said the two rival motions calling for the SGM
would cost the organization more than $3 million."The NRMA could have put another 30 new patrol vans on the road
for this amount of money, funded more safety campaigns or conduced
major research projects on issues such as driver behavior or
transport needs," she said.Members who want more information can call the member
information hotline on 1800 191 888.Voting closes on Tuesday 15th October 4pm and the meeting will
be held in Sydney on 17 October.
