Older people living in and around Dubbo will be helped by a
$5,000 road safety grant to develop advertising material and
information sessions, NRMA Motoring & Services President, Mr
Ross Turnbull, said today.
Mr Turnbull, who is visiting western NSW this week, today
presented Mayor of Dubbo, Cr Greg Matthews, with a cheque during a
visit to the city.
Mr Turnbull said grants worth 'a total of $15,000 would be
distributed to councils in western NSW this week for road safety
initiatives.
The $5,000 grant will be used by the Road Safety Officer at
Dubbo Council to conduct workshops with older road users, Mr
Turnbull said.
Dubbo Council will also produce a television commercial to
educate seniors about motorised wheelchairs and pedestrian safety.
Brochures, posters and newspaper advertising will help
complement a series of morning tea safety talks with seniors
groups.
Mr Turnbull said the number of older drivers and older road
users using Australian roads was growing.
Studies predict the number of people aged over 65 years will
double by the year 2030 - to around 25 per cent of the population,
Mr Turnbull said.
I am delighted that NRMA is able to give $5,000 to for this
local project.

Narromine, Trangi, Wellington, Molong, Orange, Cowra, Canowindra,
