Community Road Safety Grants

Community Road Safety Grants
NRMA Motoring & Services (NRMA) has committed $100,000 to funding grass roots road safety projects across NSW and ACT through the 2008-2009 NRMA Community Road Safety Grants Scheme. This amount is double that committed in the previous year.

Applications for 2008-2009 NRMA Community Road Safety Grants of up to $5,000 can be made from 31 July - 30 September 2008.

Successful grant projects will assist Local Government and incorporated Non Government Organisations (NGOs) address local road safety issues.

Last year grant recipients were spread across the State - south to Queanbeyan, west to Warren and north to Murwillumbah.

An example of a successful program was that made by The City of Sydney Council for a road safety project that helped local Aboriginal teens get their licence and be safe drivers.

The Driving for Employment project has been a valuable community initiative to provide vital driver education for Aboriginal youth who might otherwise not have the means to get up and running on the road.

Some of the other funded projects include:

  • Safe motorcycling in the Snowy Mountains
  • A safe driving program for youth in the state's west
  • An education based program to increase the number of young people wearing helmets
