KDC-NRMA Technology Challenge 2008 Event
The Challenge Event is a fun day. The emphasis is on enjoying the race-like atmosphere and participating with positive attitudes and good sportsmanship, in the spirit of the event.

Date: 

Wednesday, 20 August - Week 5, Term 3 

Location:   Eastern Creek International Raceway 
Registration:   From 8am 
Events commence:   9am 
Presentations:   3:00 - 3:30pm 


Teams

One pushcart may be entered by each participating class. The team name needs to be included in registration information.

With exception of the Obstacle/braking station all teams must comprise 8 students. A single pair of children will undertake the Obstacle/braking trial.

To maximise participation of students at the KDC-NRMA Technology Challenge event, each event may be undertaken by a different team of 8 students. This is not mandatory.

Team events

Each team will participate in the following events, as detailed in the Design Specifications:

  • Cart assembly: maximum time 30 mins. Teams will each be allocated a numbered area for construction
  • Design and construction presentation: refer to design specifications for details. Presentations will be conducted in dedicated bays, each approx 3m2.
  • Combined Obstacle course and Braking trial
  • Endurance trial: approx 800m circuit; 2 laps/team; ½ lap per pair - each driving/riding 200m
  • Sprint relay: 50m straight course; 8 laps/ team; 2 laps per pair, turning the cart at the end of each lap.

* Draft program schedule [.doc] provides an indication of the order of events ONLY. A complete schedule will be provided to each registered team.
Detailed maps of the venue indicating locations of events will be forwarded to all registered teams.
* Teams will receive feedback on the design of their pushcarts and will record results of performance trials.

Supervision of students 

Schools are responsible for active and adequate supervision of all students, at all times. This is a condition of participation in the KDC TechnoPush Challenge Event.

It is recommended that a ratio of 1 adult per 10 children is applied.

Please indicate on the Event Registration Form the number of supervising adults attending.

Preliminary event information

  • NRMA Motoring & Services is hosting the event. The venue has been thoroughly assessed. Extensive protective devices and methods will be implemented to ensure the safety of participants and spectators.
  • St John's Ambulance will be in attendance for the duration of the event.
  • Food:
    Limited food will be available for purchase at the event, including morning tea, sausage sizzle, bottled water, etc.
    Teams are encouraged to bring their own lunches, morning tea and plenty of water.
  • Students will receive a certificate of participation and a KDC-NRMA TechnoPush Challenge pack.
Awards for team achievement will be presented as the final event of the day.
