Longreach & Winton Journey

Day 1: Brisbane to Longreach

Make your own way to Brisbane Roma Street railway station to connect with your rail journey onboard the Spirit of the Outback en route to Longreach. Spend overnight on the train (D).  Flights can be arranged by one of our travel consultants at an additional cost. 

Day 2: Arrive in Longreach
Arrive into Longreach via Spirit of the Outback and check-in to your hotel before heading out for your Longreach Welcome Dinner. (B,L,D)

Day 3: Discover Longreach

Discover the challenges of teaching over the airwaves at The Longreach School of the Air. Explore the Hall of Fame Cottage and RM Williams Heritage Gardens.Learn of the Legends and the unsung heroes at The Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame, a fascinating tribute to the pioneering men & women of Australia.Tantalise your taste buds at the Cattleman’s Bar and Grill for lunch. Enjoy a break back at your accommodation prior to the Qantas Discovery Gala Dinner. (B,L,D) 

Day 4: Winton – Waltzing Matilda Centre

Realize the freedom of the vast open plains and Coolibah lined creeks. Explore dramatic changing scenery around Winton. Explore downtown Winton an unique outback community and learn of the legend at the Waltzing Matilda Centre; the only museum in the world to be dedicated to a song. Mid afternoon check into our accommodation with time to rest and refresh before the Ultimate Progressive Dinner and Winton Welcome. Begin with a short drive onto the Jump Up, take in the latest dinosaur discoveries at the Australian Age of Dinosaurs laboratory. Amongst the Majestic Mesa country soak up an unforgettable sunset and happy hour; progressing onto the Main Course, then settle in with an ice cream or jaffa’s at The Royal Mail Open Air Theatre; sit back in an old fashioned canvas seat with an open sky above as we are entertained by the screening of the Nostalgia Reels of Yesteryear followed by an optional cup of tea or coffee.(B,L,D)
Stay: Overnight in Winton

Day 5: Carisbrooke Station

Depart Winton for Carisbrooke Station and travel onto the northern remnant of the Gonnaway Plateau, the colourful Cory’s Range, a breath-taking, dramatic drive, featuring a private pristine wilderness experience - brilliant colours with views of over 700sq miles of country. Enjoy a mouth watering, country catered homestead lunch. Return to Winton for break prior to travelling onto Longreach and check into your accommodation with time to freshen up. This evening soak up a spectacular outback sunset with the Drover’s Extravaganza Dinner. Sit back and be charmed by our outback entertainers and savour the traditional flavours of our outback themed cuisine with our fun farewell awards. (B,L,D)

Day 6: Longreach to Brisbane

Explore the Qantas Founders Museum and step back in time on the 747 and 707 secrets tour. Discover the national treasures such as the original hanger and the amazing artefacts bring alive the early culture of one of the world’s first airlines telling the incredible Qantas story. Enjoy a lunchtime cruise on the mighty Thomson River a perfect leisurely end to your Longreach and Winton experience prior to checking in for the flight departure to Brisbane to your next port of call after an unforgettable atmosphere amongst the legends of Longreach & Winton in Queensland’s Outback – With stories to tell for years. Depart from Longreach with QantasLink and arrive into Brisbane Domestic Terminal.  Here you will bid farewell to your new found friends.  (B)
