You and your repairer

sample

NRMA Motoring & Services strongly suggests you find a trustworthy repairer, and establish a relationship with them. This should ensure your car will be well looked after, and save you money too.

Where should I get my car repaired?

We recommend you use an NRMA Approved Repairer or NRMA MotorServe because NRMA ensures they meet certain service and knowledge criteria.

However, as long as you use a licensed repairer, you're protected by consumer laws.

I think I have been overcharged by my repairer. What do I do?

Discuss the repair cost with the repairer. If you're still unhappy, contact NRMA Motoring Advice on 13 11 22 or the Department of Fair Trading on 133 220 or Consumer Affairs Bureau in the ACT on (02) 6207 0400. In all cases, NRMA recommends you obtain a written quotation before the repairs begin.

My mechanic told me my car needed additional repairs. How do I know I need them?

Sometimes additional problems become apparent when you're getting repairs done. Ask your repairer to contact you if extra repairs are needed and quote on the additional costs. Make sure you ask for the old parts, they belong to you!

I am not happy with my repairs. What are my rights?

Firstly, discuss it with your repairer, but remember that you're obliged to pay for the repairs before you get your car. If you're still unhappy, you are covered by the normal consumer protection laws. Call NRMA Motoring Advice on 13 11 22 or the Department of Fair Trading in NSW or the Consumer Affairs Bureau in the ACT.
