For your vehicle to operate safely on the road the tyres fitted to it must be the specified type and size and be in good condition.
Tyres must have sufficient tread depth and be inflated to the recommended pressures. Wheels fitted to your vehicle must be same as specified by the vehicle manufacturer and be in good condition.
Information on wheels, tyre sizes and other related specifications for your vehicle is stamped on the tyre placard located inside the glove box lid or door jambs. This information is also available from your owner’s manual. The owner’s manual also contains important advice on safety, care and maintenance of wheels and tyres.
When considering fitting optional tyres and wheels you must consult the car manufacturer and your insurance company for advice. Refer to the following rules for a guide:
1. The combined tyre and wheel diameter of the tyre & wheel to be fitted shall not be greater or lesser than 15 mm from the combined diameter of the standard tyre and wheel (may affect speedometer and odometer reading).
2. When fitting wider wheels the track shall not increase by more than 25 mm (increased track may overload the wheel bearings).
