Audi launches RS Coupé at Australian International Motor Show

FIRST THOUGHTS: The TT was already a very impressive machine in manual transmission, but now, with the inclusion of a seven-speed S Tronic transmission it should be a scorcher.  Only 45 of these limited edition models will be offered Down Under – representing $8,460 of additional value at no extra cost.

The Audi TT RS, the flagship TT model, is now available with Audi’s seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Having spent plenty of time behind the wheel of a TT RS and, at one time writing in a comparison test that it bested Porsche’s Cayman, this new seven-speed S Tronic equipped TT RS will make an already excellent car even better. Even Audi’s R8 V8 should watch its back.

The driver can choose between two fully automatic shift modes, and a manual mode in which gears are changed using either the paddles mounted on the steering wheel or with the selector lever down on the transmission tunnel.

And because top gear has been geared as an overdrive gear, the TT RS Coupé is quite fuel efficient, consuming a combined average of 8.5L/100km, and emiting just 197g/km of CO2.

Another highlight of the S tronic transmission is the launch control function, which delivers virtually perfect acceleration from a standing start: maximum power and minimum wheel spin.

This means the TT RS equipped with the S Tronic transmission accelerates even faster than a manual transmission-equipped TT RS. The S Tronic Coupé sprints from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.3 seconds.

Fitted with a 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder, the TT RS Coupé offers 250kW between 5400 and 6500rpm and 450Nm between 1600 and 5300rpm. In addition, the TT RS Coupé features Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive.

The Limited Edition model – of which just 45 will be sold – celebrates the launch of the TT RS S Tronic by offering a raft of highly desirable equipment at no extra cost.

These sought-after features represent $8,460 in additional value. The TT RS Limited Edition is available only with Audi’s seven-speed S Tronic transmission.
