BMW 3-Series announced

Author: Isaac BoberDate: 22 December 2011

Headlining a three-model lineup will be the six-cylinder 225kW/400Nm 335i that is priced from $91,900.

This represents a reduction in the Manufacturers Recommended List Price of over 15 per cent compared with the previous 335i M Sport model.

The new mid-range 328i is priced from $66,900, a full $5000 less than the 325i it replaces. Not only is the new model substantially more affordable, it benefits from a new four cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine that increases power and torque over its predecessor’s 2.5-litre six cylinder engine by 20kW and 100Nm to peak outputs of 180kW/350Nm. At the same time, the combined fuel consumption has been reduced by a massive 30 per cent to just 6.3L/100km.

The third model in the line-up, the 320d, is priced from $60,900. The new 135kW/380Nm 2.0-litre turbo diesel 320d gains such luxury features as fully electric front seats, keyless start/stop and front Park Distance Control while improving its already frugal fuel consumption at a class leading 4.5L/100km.

With a 50mm longer wheelbase, wider track and increase in overall length of 93mm, the new 3 Series Sedan offers more interior space, especially in the rear where improved functionality includes a 40/20/40 split folding rear seat back with folding rear headrests. The boot capacity has also been increased to 480 litres. And, in a first for the class, BMW has introduced an eight-speed Sports Automatic transmission with gearshift paddles as standard across the range.

Safety is always a high priority in all BMW vehicles and for the new 3 Series Sedan BMW introduces a new Active Protection system that initiates a range of protective measures if an accident is imminent.

In addition to this, all models are fitted standard with six airbags, and Dynamic Stability Control that includes ABS, Brake Assistant, Cornering Brake Control and Dynamic Traction Control.
