Captivating aesthetics, top-class performance, an exclusive interior and exceptionally innovative equipment features might give the third-generation BMW 6 Series Coupé classic GT credentials. But, with the recently released A7 Sportback already in the country and being a properly entertaining car to drive the new 6 Series has its work cut out for it.
Especially so when you consider it doesn’t look anywhere near as sharp as the new A7, but then, BMW of late seems to be struggling terribly with its headlights.
There will be two engine variants available from launch: BMW 650i Coupé with an eight-cylinder power plant (300kW), and the BMW 640i Coupé with an in-line six-cylinder petrol unit (235kW).
Both engine variants come as standard with an eight-speed automatic gearbox; BMW EfficientDynamics measures (including Auto Start-Stop function and ECO PRO mode in the BMW 640i Coupé); optimised efficiency combined with significant output increase over predecessor models of 30kW (BMW 650i) and 35kW (BMW 640i).
BMW’s engineers have tweaked the chassis and similar to the recently released BMW X3, have fitted the new 6 Series with electric power steering. Drive Dynamic Control is fitted as standard, Dynamic Damper Control and Adaptive Drive are cost optional.
The 6 Series, in a first for this segment, features adaptive LED Headlights for low and high beam, including cornering function, fog lamps and tail-lights also with LED technology.
