Holden will once again offer a genuine, off-road SUV in the form of the Chevrolet Trailblazer, released this week in Dubai.

Its global debut has been made as the Chevrolet Trailblazer, but this tough sophisticated off-roader will be released in Australia as the Holden Colorado 7. It will be the first heavy duty, off-road vehicle to wear a Holden badge in almost ten years.

Due in Australia in the first quarter of 2013, we are told that the Colorado 7 will bear a close resemblance to the imposing show car you see here when it enters production in 2012. The Trailblazer has been developed alongside the new-generation Colorado – recently previewed at the Melbourne International Motor Show – with which it shares its architecture and underpinnings.

At the Dubai Motor Show, GM execs said that the Trailblazer's chassis is tuned for the dual requirements of heavy-duty off-road performance and ride comfort in urban and city driving, while its body-on-frame construction makes it an ideal vehicle for towing. With accommodation for up to seven passengers and genuine third-row seating, Trailblazer is powered by a new-generation 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine, with a variable-geometry turbocharger for the optimal combination of performance and fuel economy.

Holden Executive Director Marketing, Sales and Aftersales John Elsworth said the Colorado 7 would build on the reputation of Holden's much-loved Colorado workhorse. "The Trailblazer show car is an impressive-looking vehicle, and it's pretty close to what customers will see when the Holden Colorado 7 arrives in Australia in 2013," he said. "Colorado 7 will also offer excellent interior flexibility and comfort for up to seven passengers across a third row of seats.

"It will have the fuel-efficiency and interior comfort of a modern family SUV, along with the towing ability of a working vehicle and the off-road capability of a true 4X4. We're confident it will have all bases well and truly covered."

Its 'body in-wheels out' design in GM speak ensures excellent approach and departure angles, while design cues including the bonnet power dome, raised cowl and higher-mounted dual projector headlamps give the Trailblazer a strong, purposeful appearance. Polished aluminium exterior highlights and tri-coat pearlescent white paint add to the show car's luxury exterior finish.

Inside, the Trailblazer has an intuitive and flexible seating configuration, premium interior appointments such as digital climate control system and USB and Bluetooth connectivity.

Trailblazer joins the growing portfolio of new GM products designed for the global market, which includes the highly successful Cruze small car, recently launched Barina hatchback, the upcoming Colorado LCV and the mid-sized Malibu sedan.
