Later this year, Renault will release a new Koleos into the Australian market with revised exterior styling and interior trim. Renault claims that the new model will reinforce their claims that the Koleos is a more ‘high end’ option than its competitors. The previous model had a certain felling of quality that its competitors couldn’t quite live up to and it seems that the new model will be no different.

Targeted toward ‘fun loving urban families’ in Renault speak, the new Koleos will focus on comfort, flexibility, versatility and value for money. The centrepiece of the new model is the revised styling, which Renault likes to describe as ‘more robust’. Always an attractive vehicle, the Koleos hasn’t lost appeal, but rather just looks a little tougher than it used to.

There’s no reinventing the wheel in a styling sense, just a subtle and smart redesign that ensures the new model is recognisable as just that – a new model. Air intakes have been repositioned, there’s a new chrome grille and the headlights are slimmer. Updated doors incorporate LED indicators. Side on, you’ll notice more ground clearance, and new, more attractive wheels.

Behind the wheel is where the original Koleos really put its competitors to shame thanks to an elegant design and a genuine feeling of quality in regard to fit and finish. New materials and trim add to the refinement and the dashboard, instruments and lighting have all been redesigned and upgraded.

Underneath, the Nissan designed AWD system remains, which means you get more offroad ability than you might think and excellent grip and drive under all road conditions. The new model continues the first version’s penchant for being hustled along thanks to precise steering and road holding. Around town or out on the open road, the new Koleos promises to be an engaging drive.

As you’d expect of a European brand, safety is high on the agenda and the Koleos doesn’t disappoint here either thanks to a five-star EuroNCAP rating thanks in no small part to features such as ESP, emergency brake assist, programmed structural deformation, 6-airbags and seat belt pretensioners.

The new Koleos will go on sale in Australia in the last quarter of this year. Local pricing and specification levels will be announced closer to the launch date.
