Land Rover chose the recent Bologna Motor Show in Italy to unveil its limited edition Freelander 2 Sport. The regular Freelander 2 will be launched in Australia in February.
The baby of the Land Rover range now has a body kit with squared-off bumpers, a rear spoiler and whopping 19-inch alloys. Body-coloured door handles and mirror caps along with privacy glass further emphasise the dynamic look of this premium limited edition. Front and rear parking sensors will be available as standard. Buyers can choose from three exclusive colours: Fuji White, Santorini Black, or Firenze Red (pictured above).
The tweaks on the inside are subtle rather than significant, with the choice of either Ebony Windsor leather with contrast Pimento stitch, or Ebony Napoli leather with matching contrast Windsor leather highlight stripe on the seats. A Piano Black fascia finisher also features together with Ebony carpet mats that have a contrast edge of either Ivory or Pimento.
Only available with a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine (consuming 7.0L/100km) and a six-speed automatic gearbox, the Sport can run on a mixture of 90 per cent regular diesel and 10 per cent bio-diesel. With 140kW and 310Nm it’ll hit 100km/h in a tick under nine seconds.
While there's no word on when we'll see the Freelander 2 SD4 Sport down under, Land Rover Australia's marketing and public affairs manager, Tim Krieger, says "It's a car that's definitely on our radar". Fingers crossed, then.
