The first two-seater in its line-up sees MINI take the renergising of the MINI brand into the compact sports-car class. Other players include the Audi TT, the BMW 135i, and, at a stretch, the 370Z.

The selection of engines, chassis set-up, weight distribution and aerodynamic properties of the MINI Coupé are all focused on delivering optimum performance. As a result, the new car achieves the best performance statistics ever recorded by a volume-produced MINI (0-100km/h in 6.4secs – JCW Coupe).

The Coupe is potentially available with the entire range of MINI engines: the 90kW engine of the MINI Cooper Coupé, to the MINI Cooper SD Coupé (105kW) and MINI Cooper S Coupé (135kW), all the way up to the MINI John Cooper Works Coupé, a thoroughbred athlete producing 155kW.

Everyone talks about MINIs offering go-kart like handling and, according to MINI, the new Coupe takes that feeling to another level. It has made Electric Power Steering standard, DSC stability control, beefy brakes and body strengthening to ensure optimum torsional rigidity.

Its flat silhouette and ‘helmet roof’ look lend the MINI Coupé a more aggressive look than any other MINI. In addition to the integral roof spoiler, an active rear spoiler optimises airflow at higher speeds. Helped by its extremely high-opening tailgate and large luggage area with through-loading facility, the MINI Coupé displays outstanding versatility in day-to-day driving, or so MINI says.
