Despite seeming to have more money than Scrooge McDuck, it seems the company behind the New Stratos can’t convince Ferrari to play ball with them.
The modern interpretation of the iconic Lancia Startos will not make production in its current state, the team behind New Stratos has revealed.
Originally built as a one-off and then offered as a limited run of 25 cars, around 40 prospective buyers expressed interest in buying a New Stratos. Renowned Italian design house, Pininfarina designed a one-off running example based on the 2005 concept, using the running gear from a Ferrari F430.
But a spanner has been thrown into the works. A newsletter from the company, posted out this week stated, “despite Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo’s excellent assessment of the New Stratos after his test drive at Fiorano, Ferrari does not consent to construction of the planned limited run by either Pininfarina or any other Ferrari-dependent suppliers”.
The same newsletter claimed the additional cars could be “produced using a Ferrari F360 or F430 as a basis, in a similar production process to that used with our one-off vehicle”.
The statement goes onto say that the additional vehicles can only be built by using companies no dependent on Ferrari. Watch this space.
