Porsche likes to remind us about its ‘Intelligent Performance’ and it’s hard to argue with massive and reliable power being generated from small, fuel efficient engines in ever increasing numbers. Now, the fuel efficiency story gets better for Porsche with the Panamera Diesel.
Thanks to an NEDC fuel consumption figure of just 6.5L/100km, the Panamera comes in comfortably under the 7.0L/100km government ‘green’ target and therefore benefits from a reduction in the Luxury Car Tax (LCT).
The LCT is calculated from $75,375 and not the standard $57,466 threshold, resulting in a $5,300 benefit for customers, which is reflected in the Panamera Diesel’s price of $194,900.
There’s healthy performance on offer as well, to the tune of 550Nm and 184kW from the 3.0-litre engine. Perhaps most significant is the fact that the power and torque figures are flexible in a give and take driving sense.
It’s not much use having peak power available at 9000rpm for the daily drive. That peak torque figure is available between 1750 and 2750rpm, while peak power is on offer between 3800 and 4400rpm - right where you want it, in other words. Top speed is impressive too at 242kph.
As you’d expect, the new diesel features some pretty serious internal technology to deliver such low fuel consumption and emissions.
Common rail direct injection with piezo valves, electrically controlled variable geometry turbochargers, and controlled exhaust gas recirculation keep things running incredibly smoothly.
There’s also an oxidation catalyst and a particulate filter.
This incredible new GT from Porsche is on sale now and available available for delivery commencing in September.
