Ford Australia has announced Manufacturer's List Pricing for the latest additions to the MC Mondeo range, which will be powered by its EcoBoost engine. The Mondeo will spearhead the local launch of this new generation engine technology, which uses direct injection and turbocharging to deliver large capacity engine power and performance from a smaller capacity powerplant, while still delivering impressive fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions.
“Our new family of Ford EcoBoost petrol engines, which are being rolled out around the globe, represent a key element of Ford Motor Company's global 'Blueprint for Sustainability',” Bob Graziano, President & CEO, Ford Australia said.
“We believe that these engines will provide customers with a genuinely attractive alternative to diesel or hybrid power units, delivering highly competitive fuel economy and cost-of-ownership, along with the responsive performance and wide rev range that have made petrol engines the favoured choice for so many drivers.”
On sale in July, the 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine will be available on Mondeo Zetec ($37,740) and Titanium ($44,990) hatch models, replacing the previous 2.3-litre Duratec petrol engine. The 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine has a maximum power output of 149kW at 6000rpm, combined with peak torque of 300Nm across a broad 1750-4500rpm range, which represents a 26 per cent improvement in power and a 44 per cent increase in torque. The EcoBoost engine is mated to a new Ford PowerShift six-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.
Even with improved performance, fuel economy and CO2 emissions achieved by the EcoBoost engine are significantly improved. Compared with the previous 118kW 2.3-litre automatic powertrain, combined fuel economy has been reduced by 16 per cent to 8.0L/100km, while CO2 emissions are down by over 17 per cent to 187g/km.
