After months and months of begging, Volkswagen Australia has finally been granted its wish – the Scirocco R is coming.
First thoughts: With 188kW and 330Nm and looks to kill, the Scirocco R will definitely upset the established hot hatch glitterati when it arrives here in 2012.
If the Golf GTI and Golf R just aren't enough for you, then you'll be glad to know the Scirocco R is finally on its way to Australia.
Powered by Volkswagen's 2.0-litre TSI engine, the Scirocco R offers 188kW at 6000rpm and 330Nm from 2500 to 5000 rpm. You can have either a manual or Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG), and it's available with a specially tuned sport chassis and XDL (Extended Electronic Differential Lock), and Adaptive Chassis Control as standard.
Looking like it was styled from a shark, the Scirocco R has a nice deep chin allowing plenty of air to get into the engine bay and the brakes. At the back-end, the designers and engineers fitted a roof spoiler and diffuser. One tailpipe on the left and the other on the right define the border between the black diffuser and the bumper painted in body colour.
Huge 19-inch alloys "Talladega" type wrapped in 235/35 rubber offer an uninterrupted look at the huge 17-inch braking system with its glossy black calipers and R-logo.
On the inside, the Scirocco R looks good, with, typical of all R-models, special interior accents, sport seats and numerous other dynamic features.
Full specifications and pricing of the Scirocco R will be released at launch in early 2012.
