NRMA Older Driver Education Programs

For 90 years NRMA have been dedicated to improving road safety for all road users. As part of this commitment, NRMA has a range of Older Driver Education programs especially designed for senior road users. Our programs have been running for many years gaining a great reputation in the community.

Are you a part of a community group or organisation?

If so, why not organise a road safety talk from NRMA. The programs are free and delivered by our experienced peer-age presenters who will come to your seniors' group. Sessions run for one hour for groups of over 20 participants.

We currently deliver Older Driver Education programs in the Illawarra, Greater Sydney, Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Hunter and Mid North Coast regions.

Which program is best for your group?

The Years Ahead Driver program is an engaging presentation where issues for older drivers are identified and discussed, assisting them to drive safely for longer.

Key topics covered are:

  • Changes to legislation
  • Safe driving tips Road rules
  • Vehicle safety
  • Pedestrian safety
  • Physical fitness and driving
  • Mobility alternatives.
  • The Pedestrian program is a presentation promoting the accessibility and safe use of facilities for pedestrian on our roads e.g. pedestrian paths, crossings etc…  

Key topics covered are:

  • Risks as a pedestrian
  • Key data
  • Age related issues
  • Pedestrian safety hints and tips.

The Motorised Scooter program is a presentation discussing your legal rights and responsibilities for safe motorised wheelchair use.

Key topics covered are:

  • Changes to legislation
  • Safe driving tips
  • Skills and abilities
  • Physical fitness
  • Insurance options.

The Combined program is a presentation combining the Pedestrian program and Motorised Scooter program into one as detailed above, however not to the depth of the individual program itself.

The Volunteer Driver program is especially tailored to those who volunteer and devote their time to other people, local services, activities, programs and their community. This program identifies and assists volunteer drivers of how to be safe on the road.
