More information on safer driving
According to the RTA, road crashes cause more than 400 deaths and 25,000 injuries each year in New South Wales.
We believe driver education and attitude are critical to becoming a safer driver. In this section, we aim to provide as much useful information to help you avoid the frequent traps of dangerous driving.
We take a look at:
- Inside the car - Modern cars are now very well equipped and include gadgets that can be a distraction while driving. Here we look at what's inside the car, how to store and use it safely as well as information on driving positions and what you need in case you break down.
- City driving - Safer city driving techniques from what to do when you break down in the city to parking tips, how to use roundabouts and merging lanes to drunk pedestrians. At times the hectic pace of city traffic can become overwhelming. If you feel like you're in the middle of a pack of Formula One drivers, just relax.
- Country driving - Safer country driving techniques from driver fatigue to overtaking on open roads to driving at high speed in adverse conditions – in heavy rain, fog or at night. There is also useful information on towing a caravan, driving in snow and merging on a motorway.
- Demerit points – Recent changes to the demerit points system means now all unrestricted licence holders can accrue an extra demerit point over three years, while commercial licence holders will receive an extra two. In addition, 22 demerit point offences will either be deleted or reduced.
