ACT Holiday Ideas

ACT stands for Australian Capital Territory and can be found in the south east of the country within the state of New South Wales. ACT covers an area of 910 square miles and is inhabited by less than half a million people. Despite its remoteness and low population density, ACT is a popular place for tourists to visit. Like Europe, ACT features four seasons, although the summer season occurs during the European winter, while the winter season takes place in the middle of the year. Summers in the ACT tend to be hot and dry, with peak temperatures reaching as high as 42.8°C. However, winters here are often much cooler than the rest of Australia, and temperatures of −14.6°C have been recorded in the month of July.

Booking an ACT holiday is a great way to get a real feel for this part of Australia and gain an understanding of the country's rich history and culture. A large number of visitors to this part of Australia start their ACT holidays in the capital city of Canberra. This well planned city boasts a wide range of amenities for visitors to make use of as well as attractions to explore. The great thing about the city of Canberra is that most of the major landmarks and attractions are set out in a circuit, making them easily accessible. Regular hop-on, hop-off buses make their way around this circuit during the day, allowing visitors the chance to see the sights at their own pace. Some of the main highlights here that are just waiting to be discovered include the National Gallery, Parliament House and the Parliamentary Triangle. Bicycle paths also run around these attractions and cycling here is fun and simple as most of the city is flat.

The Australian Capital Territory also features a large number of other destinations for visitors to explore. People who are interested in ancient history will find a number of archaeological sites and impressive collections of fossils near Duntroon, while nature lovers are sure to enjoy exploring Namadgi National Park, which is covered with mountains and forests and features a number of excellent hiking trails.
