Day 1: Adelaide
Start your outback adventure easy and slow in the delightful city of Adelaide. Pick up your 4WD Bush camper for your trip. Despite being a major Australian city, Adelaide has maintained an enviable tranquillity – it's fondly known as the City of Churches and the calm that its architecture induces is palpable. ' The 4WD Bush camper is great for 2 adults or 2 adults and a child featuring basic camping necessities. Amenities include solar portable handheld shower, 3.3kg gas bottle, portable gas stove, 32 litre fridge, kitchen kit, double bed and single bed with linen and bedding, air conditioning (driver's cabin only), radio and CD player. Day 2: Adelaide
Whole day is yours to explore all this charming city has to offer. The Torrens River is a great spot to relax and enjoy the sun and the inner city suburbs have a charming village appeal. The inner city beaches such as Glenelg could be mistaken for remote costal areas so it's possible to enjoy a clean and quiet beach while having the benefit of being no more than 20 minutes from the great restaurants and vibrant nightlife that Adelaide has to offer. You may also visit some of Australia's best wineries which are right at Adelaides door step. Overnight in your 4WD Bush camper.
Day 3: Adelaide - Coober Pedy
Today is the start of your exhilarating outback adventure! Drive to Coober Pedy or "Coobped" to locals. It's closer to Uluru than Adelaide, 846km north of the SA capital. Coober Pedy's sole raison d’être are opals. Local mines produce about three-quarters of the world's total haul, mostly white opal. Coober Pedy means "white fella's hole in the ground", an Aboriginal comment on the dugout dwellings that early miners (returned WWI soldiers, said to have been inspired by the trenches of the Western Front) created to escape the fierce summer heat. These innovative caves maintain indoor temperatures between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius, even when it's 45°C in the shade outside. Overnight in your 4WD Bush camper.
Day 4: Coober Pedy
Today, learn more about this fascinating town with desert cave and breakaway tour. Drive through a working opal field and visit a former working opal mine, which is now a museum. See the Breakaways (colourful sandstone outcrops with spectacular views), the Dog Fence and a former inland sea. Observe how the locals live in a genuine underground home and marvel at the underground church and grassless golf course. Overnight in your 4WD Bush camper.
Day 5: Coober Pedy - Uluru
It is now time to head to the most famous landmark of Australia, the Uluru. Ayers Rock (Uluru) rises 348 metres out of the earth in Australia's Red Centre and is 9.4 kilometres in circumference. This iconic, World Heritage-listed site is of spiritual significance to Australia's Aboriginal peoples and the landscape has been looked after by its traditional Anangu owners for tens of thousands of years. Day 6: Uluru
The best way to fully immerse yourself in this region is going on a tour with local guide with self drive Aboriginal guided walk. Aboriginal Guides host a fascinating walk into the base of Uluru and a visit to the Uluru Cultural Centre. Your tour begins with a guided interpretation and introduction to Aboriginal Law. With your Aboriginal Guide, visit caves where his or her ancestors left paintings in time worn ochres. See the beautiful Mutitjulu Waterhole, whose life-giving waters have been drunk by generations of Aboriginal people. Discover local bush foods and hear tales of desert survival. Day 7: Uluru - Alice Springs
Your intense outback journey is nearly at its end and it is now time to return your vehicle and head to the 4 star accommodation. Alice Springs is far more than the gateway to the Red Centre - it's a lively little city offering unique experiences including desert horse riding, camel riding and hot air ballooning. Alice is also a great place to start if you intend to explore Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon) and the MacDonnell Ranges. If you're a fan of great aboriginal art, bring your credit card!
