Itinerary

 Day Destination 
 1 Arrive Cairns
Arrive in Cairns where you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy free time to explore or relax. Go shopping, or wander around the vibrant city.
Stay: The Hotel Cairns, Tower Rooms, one block from the Esplanade.
 2 Daintree River, Cape Tribulation
Travel on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. Skim over the tree tops, stopping at Red Peak Station and Barron Falls Station. On arrival in Kuranda, catch the free shuttle bus to the markets. Alternatively, walk into Kuranda Village. At Rainforestation Nature Park, watch the Pamagirri Dancers perform in a rainforest amphitheatre. Then, on the Dreamtime Walk, you’ll learn to throw a boomerang, watch spear-throwing and enjoy the sounds of the didgeridoo. Afterwards, board the Kuranda Scenic Railway for a journey through rainforest, steep ravines and past picturesque waterfalls down the mountain to Cairns.

Bloomfield Track, Cooktown
Travel the remote and rugged Bloomfield Track to Cooktown, gateway to the Cape York Peninsula. Travel through the dense rainforest with steep climbs and several creek crossings before stopping at Bloomfield Falls where you are joined by a local Indigenous guide for an interpretive tour. Stop at Black Mountain before arriving in Cooktown. It was here that James Cook beached his ship, the Endeavour, for repairs in 1770 - making Cooktown the first European settlement on Australian soil. Visit the James Cook Museum, stroll through the historic cemetery with its Chinese shrine and visit Nature’s Powerhouse in the Botanic Gardens to view an exhibition of Cape York wildlife and a collection of botanical illustrations.  4 Lakefield National Park
Journey into Lakefield National Park, Queensland’s second largest national park at 1.33 million acres. Stretching from Princess Charlotte Bay down to Laura, the park’s near-wilderness is covered with sun-bleached grasses, paper bark woodland, mangroves, swamp and fringing rainforest. It’s home to a wide variety of birds including Jabirus, Brolgas and many duck species, as well as colonies of fruit bats that take to the skies in the evening, and numerous wallabies. (B,L,D)

Coen, Weipa, Gulf Country
Explore the old goldmining town of Coen then drive via Mungkan Kandju National Park, with its riverine rainforest and swamps, to Weipa, on the shores of the Gulf of Carpentaria, the site of the world’s largest bauxite deposit. Weipa also boasts fantastic Barramundi and blue salmon fishing. (B,L,D)

Weipa, Moreton Telegraph Station
Join a local guide for a tour of the Weipa Bauxite Mine, the largest of its kind in the world. Afterwards, continue along rugged dirt roads through remote areas of Cape York to Moreton Telegraph Station, located on the Wenlock River. (B,L,D)

Cape York Peninsula
Skirting the Jardine River National Park, continue through the traditional lands of the Injinoo Aboriginal people, and travel on some of the original sections of the Old Telegraph Track. This route was carved out in the 1880s and some of the first telegraph poles can still be seen. Stop at Fruit Bat Falls, where there’s time for a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters. Stay: Two Nights: Resort Bamaga, a haven in the wilderness at the very top of Cape York.

 8 Explore Cape York
Travel to the tip of the Cape York Peninsula and disembark near beautiful Frangipani Beach. Take a mildly challenging but enjoyable walk to the tip of the peninsula to experience being at the Australian mainland’s most northerly point. Travel to historic Somerset, once the official government residence of the cape. Then, return to the resort. (B,L,D)

Thursday Island
Cruise across Endeavour Strait to Thursday Island. One of around 100 islands that make up the Torres Strait Islands, Thursday Island is home to 3,000 people, primarily of Melanesian descent. Thursday Island was once a base for pearling luggers. With a local guide, discover the island’s intriguing history and get a feel for island life in the Torres Strait.  (B,D)

Cape York, Cairns 
This morning after breakfast, transfer to Horn Island Airport for your flight over the vast Cape York Peninsula. Arrive in Cairns and transfer to your hotel, enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure. (B)

 11 Cairns
Your wilderness adventure ends after breakfast, when you’ll be transferred to the airport for your onward flight. (B)
