A Eurail Select Pass gives you the choice of travelling to 3, 4 or 5 European countries over a duration of 5, 6, 8 or 10 days within a 2 month period.
The 24 participating Eurail select countries are: Austria; Benelux; Bulgaria; Serbia & Montenegro; Croatia/Slovenia; Czech Republic; Denmark; Finland; France; Germany; Greece; Hungary; Italy; Norway; Portugal; Republic of Ireland; Romania; Spain; Sweden; Switzerland. (Liechtenstein and Monaco are considered part of Austria and France respectively).
Some trains may transit through a country not covered by the pass. In that case you must purchase an additional ticket. Transit visas may also be required. Travel on Premier/high-speed and Swiss Scenic trains in Europe is subject to a surcharge for compulsory reservations.
A day of rail travel is a 24 hour period from midnight to midnight. However, if you are travelling on a direct night train (with no connections or layovers) that departs after 7 pm and arrives after 4 am, you only need to use one day (the day of arrival). Your Pass must be valid on the day of departure and arrival.
First Class: There are fewer seats per carriage in first class and the seats may recline on some trains. There is also more space for luggage. On some high-speed trains a meal may be included in the fare. Generally the carriages are quieter as the clientele is more business orientated and mainly adults.
Second Class: The seating configuration is normally tighter with four skinnier seats per row. As it is less expensive, there is a higher chance that locals, including children, travel in this class and therefore it is noisier and confirmed seats are harder to come by. Second class is available for Members less than 26 years of age only. Prices are available upon request.
Sleeper Cabin: Your railpass allows you to board a train, but does not guarantee you a sleeper or couchette. If you require sleeping accommodation you must purchase this at an additional cost when you make the train reservation.
Seat Reservations: High Speed and premier trains require seat reservations. To obtain seat reservations we highly recommend that you pre-purchase your seats as far in advance of your travel date as possible. Passholder seat reservations are limited. Seats/Sleeper cabins can only be booked 120-60 days prior to travel depending on the destination. You can book your train reservations at any train station in Europe. While it is not always possible to book a sector from one country if you are in another, this can normally be done at the main train stations in major cities. Alternatively you can book all your sectors with NRMA Travel before you leave Australia. This may avoid disappointment of finding trains fully booked (especially during peak times).
Luggage: There is no luggage limit (except on few trains such as Eurostar and French-Spanish Hotel-trains), however traveller's have to carry their luggage themselves, so we suggest you travel as light as possible. Very few trains have luggage coach; the majority have either overhead storage racks, storage room behind the back of the seats or luggage storage areas at the end of each carriage.
Please note the private line between Naples and Sorrento is NOT covered by the Eurail Pass.
Insurance: As passes cannot be replaced if lost or stolen we highly recommend you taking out Pass Security for an additional $18 per pass. Ask us for the product disclosure statement.
