Day 1: Beijing
Transfers from the airport to your hotel.
Day 2: Beijing
A full day excursion to see the Great Wall of China at Gubeikou. This evening enjoy a traditional Peking duck dinner. (B,D)
Day 3: Beijing – Xian
Visit the Tiananmen Square and Gate, followed by the Forbidden City with its magnificent marble courtyards and ornate pavilions. Later visit the old and new Summer Palaces. The new Summer Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This evening join a comfortable soft sleeper train to Xian. (B)
Day 4: Xian
Visit the Terracotta Warriors buried more than 2000 years ago. The afternoon is free to relax or continue exploring this ancient town. This evening enjoy a dumpling banquet. (D)
Day 5: Xian
Visit the Buddhist Wild Goose Pagoda and Taoist Baxian Gong temple to learn more about these fascinating religions. This evening board the soft sleeper train to Chengdu. (B)
Day 6: Chengdu
A morning tour of the Jinsha Ruins Museum. These ruins represent one of the most important archaeological finds since the Terracotta warriors. See the 4D cinema show which is entertaining as well as informative.
Day 7: Bifengxia Panda Base
Leave Chengdu and drive to Bifengxia Panda Base (B)
Days 8-9: Bifengxia Panda Base
Bifengxia Panda Base sits in a beautiful mountain area just outside Ya’an and about 150 km from Chengdu. The Base is home to a conservation and research centre looking after several dozen pandas at any time. After a briefing and allocation of protective clothing start working with and assisting the keepers and local staff. The work is varied and could include assisting with everyday duties such as cleaning pens and yards, feeding and recording statistics. The majority of the work happens in the mornings, so there is plenty of free time to learn more about the Pandas habitat, mating habits and diets. There is no doubt this will be a life changing and rewarding experience, and will help preserve these wonderful creatures for the future. The accommodation at the Panda Base is simple but adequate and is on a twin or quad share basis.
Day 10: Chengdu – Yangshuo
Return to Chengdu for the flight to Guilin. Transfer to the hotel on arrival.
Day 11: Yangshuo
Free day – rent a bicycle or take a short boat trip on the Li River. (B)
Day 12: Ping An
Transfer to Ping An. Day at leisure. Optional excursions are available here or sit back and enjoy the stunning scenery and surrounding mountains which have been carved into rice terraces. (B)
Day 13: Guilin – Guangzhou
Transfer to Guilin and board the overnight soft sleeper train to Guangzhou.
Day 14: Guangzhou
Visit Nanyue King's Tomb and Zhenhai Tower followed by a fantastic dim sim lunch. Balance of the day is free to take in the sights of Guangzhou. (L)
Day 15: Guangzhou
Free time until the airport transfer to join the flight home. (B)
