First stop on this fabulous adventure is the Great Wall of China followed by the highlights of Beijing, visiting Tiananmen Square, the Ming Tombs, Forbidden City, Old and New Imperial Summer Palaces.
Then it's on to Xian the ancient Tang Dynasty capital, famous for its Terracotta Warriors.
We also visit the Wild Goose Pagoda and Baxian Gong Temple - the only Taoist temple in Xian. Our adventure ends in cosmopolitan Shanghai where we take in the People's Square, the Shanghai and Urban Planning museums and the beautiful water town of Zhujiajiao.

Day 1: Beijing
On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Day 2: Beijing
Today we travel north to see the famous Gubeikou section of the Great Wall of China. Here the wall stretches for more than 40 kilometres with 14 beacon towers and 143 watch towers. Gubeikou rates highly as an architectural achievement and includes many cultural relics such as the Big Flower Beacon Tower of the Northern Qi Dynasty period and the Fairy Tower. This evening we enjoy a traditional Peking Duck dinner. (B,D)
Day 3: Beijing-Xian
No visit to Beijing would be complete without a visit to the Forbidden City with its magnificent marble courtyards and ornate pavilions. This afternoon we visit the Summer Palaces which were built as escapes for Emperors and their families. The Old Summer Palace is largely in ruins and of interest more for the events leading to its destruction. The New Summer Palace is a magnificent site that has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1998. The magnificent gardens and lake are deemed a masterpiece of Chinese landscape and design. This evening we take a comfortable soft sleeper train to the ancient Tang Dynasty capital city of Xian. (B,L,D)
Day 4: Xian
This morning we take a walking tour of central Xian, specifically the Grand Mosque and ancient City Walls of Xian. The afternoon is free to relax or continue exploring this ancient town.
Day 5: Xian - Shanghai
Today we view the excavated Terracotta Warriors which were buried more than 2000 years ago to guard the tomb of the first emperor Qinshihuang. We also visit the Buddhist Wild Goose Pagoda and Taoist Baxian Gong temple to learn more about these fascinating religions. This evening we enjoy a Dumpling Banquet before our overnight soft sleeper journey to Shanghai. (B,L,D)
Day 6: Shanghai
Transfer to your hotel on arrival in cosmopolitan Shanghai. This afternoon we enjoy a city tour and visit the Shanghai and Urban Planning Museums, People's Square and visit the tranquil and beautiful Longhua Gardens. Later there is an option to wander though the Bund with its many historical buildings and more recent attractions. (L)
Day 7: Zhujiajiao-Shanghai
Today we travel out of Shanghai to the stunning water town of Zhujiajiao. Established 1,700 years ago Zhujiajiao has many well preserved examples of Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasty houses and architecture, old stone bridges, picturesque canals and streets. This evening we return to Shanghai to see the Shanghai Acrobats. (B,L,D)
Day 8: Shanghai
A relaxing day today, you are free to discover more of this fascinating city. Originally a fishing and textiles town, Shanghai grew through the 19th century as a result of its favorable port location on the mouth of the Yangtze River. Today it is the commercial and financial hub of China and famous for its fabulous skyline including the spectacular Oriental Pearl Tower as seen from the Bund. (B)
