A true cultural immersion, this experience is comprised of a hands-on volunteer project in the coastal community of Rio Muchacho that is fun for the whole family. Explore all this coastal community has to offer including wildlife, canoeing, horseback riding and waterfalls with time spent volunteering on an organic farm and at the environmental primary school. This tour gives you the chance to experience rural Ecuador and share in a different culture

Itinerary

 

Day 1 Arrive Quito
Arrive in Quito at any time.

 

Day 2 Bahía de Caráquez/Rio Muchacho Farm (L, D)
Take a morning flight to the Ecuadorian coast and travel to Bahía de Caráquez, known as Ecuador's eco-city. Enjoy a city tour including panoramic lookout points, the local market and visit Bahia's oldest resident, Miguelito, the 96 year old Galapagos tortoise. In the afternoon, explore the mangroves by canoe navigating through narrow channels to reach a frigatebird colony. Overnight in Rió Muchacho in a thatched roof cabin next to the river.

 

Day 3 Rio Muchacho Farm (B,L,D)
Today we get a tour of the farm with time to feed and visit the animals. We'll try our hand at cutting down sugar cane to chew, and visit a giant fig tree where we can swing like Tarzan. Enjoy an intro to horseback riding, make key chains out of vegetable ivory and spend the evening sipping hot chocolate over a wood fire.

 

Day 4 Rio Muchacho Farm (B,L,D)
Today we learn to make cheese on the farm, fish for shrimp, make rings from palm seeds and go for a refreshing swim in the river. In the afternoon, we will give a helping hand on the organic farm and in the evening we relax around the campfire.

 

Day 5 Rio Muchacho Farm (B,L,D)
We spend the morning visiting and helping out at the primary school. In the afternoon, optional activities include a swim in the sea, a visit to Saiananda Park, a visit to Ecopapel (a paper recycling project) or a horse trek.

 

Day 6 Quito (B)
Today we take a return flight to Quito and enjoy a free day exploring the city.

 

Day 7 Depart Quito
