How much does it cost to hire a car in Sydney?
The cost of hiring a car in Sydney comes down to a number of factors including:
- Type of vehicle
- Length of hire
- How far in advance you make a booking
- Upgrades to standard protection
- Any optional extras such as GPS or a baby seat
Be mindful of peak periods, typically between December and February during summer holidays and other school holidays throughout the year, as this is when prices typically increase and vehicles are booked out. We recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred vehicle and lock in a cheaper car rental price, whilst NRMA members can also save with their member benefits.

As an estimate, you can expect to pay around $80-$120 per day for a standard compact vehicle such as a Toyota Corolla, whilst a SUV will cost slightly more around $120-$160 per day.
Can I pick up and drop off my hire car out of hours?
It is possible to pick up or drop off your car after hours at the Sydney locations, however you will need to contact your store location to discuss your requirements as this is conducted on a case-by-case basis.
The Sydney Airport locations are open 7 days a week from early morning until late at night to cater for those looking for car hire. Similarly, the Alexandria rental office is open throughout the week and on Saturday and Sunday mornings. We recommend checking your store location before you make a rental car booking with SIXT.

Can I pick up my rental car at Sydney Airport and return it elsewhere?
Yes. SIXT gives its drivers the flexibility to pick up their rental car from any location and return it to any other SIXT rental office across Australia through its one-way car rentals. We recommend checking the options available when you make a booking online. Consider a road trip from Sydney to Melbourne or perhaps up the coast to the Gold Coast or even as far as Cairns in Far North Queensland.
Are there tolls on Sydney roads?
Some of the major roads in Sydney are toll roads and it is your responsibility to pay the fee to use them. All of the SIXT vehicles are fitted with an electronic tag (e-Tag), making it convenient to drive. After you’ve driven on a toll road, you will receive a welcome email or SMS from Linkt which will charge the cost of the toll trip to your credit or debit card that you provided to SIXT, plus a $3.30 service fee for each day you use a toll road.
