Lake Somerset is set on 45ha of glorious northern hinterland.

NRMA Lake Somerset Holiday Park is the ideal getaway for water sport enthusiasts, keen anglers and nature lovers. The park is located just an hour from Brisbane and is in fact, centrally located between the state capital, Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast.

The park

Encompassing 45ha on the northern shores of Somerset Dam, NRMA Lake Somerset Holiday Park offers a huge range of activities perfectly suited for anyone who loves water sports. Enjoy boating in the dam, cast a line fishing or just take in the picturesque landscape of mountain ranges and forests. The park offers a range of facilities including a camp kitchen, barbecue areas, children’s playground, mini golf, modern amenities and a kiosk. Guests also have access to the park’s boat ramp to allow for an easy launch.

The accommodation

The park features a range of accommodation options. The shingle roof Log Cabins in particular are rustic and perfectly complement the setting, not to mention comfortably housing up to eight people. For a more luxe escape, the two bedroom Lake View Villas offer unparalleled water views, air conditioning, a full kitchen and private verandah with outdoor seating, while glamping style safari tents satisfy any four berth accommodation needs. However, if your idea of a fishing focused long weekend runs more along the lines of sleeping bags and steaming billies, there are plenty of powered and unpowered caravan, motorhome, campervan and tent sites to choose from.

The neighbourhood

For a more adrenaline fuelled adventure, book in with Skydive Ramblers Toogoolawah – take a literal bird’s eye view of this beautiful lakes district and the surrounding bush with a one minute freefall and five minute parachute flight to the drop zone, about 30 minutes from Lake Somerset Holiday Park. Afterwards, reward your bravery on the Somerset Wine Trail – charge your glasses, it’s a long one. At Bellevue Homestead, old meets new, with the vineyards a relatively recent addition to a beautiful old homestead. Taste exclusivity at Mount England Estate, which produces only 200 to 300 bottles per year. Wine and dine overlooking the lake at Ocean View Estates, pick up a bottle of shiraz and some prime Angus steaks from Winya Wines and pair wine and cheese at Woongooroo Estate. And at night, simply sit under the stars and look up – guaranteed you’ve never seen a night sky like this one.
