NRMA election platform unveiled: voter survey released

08 February 2019

An NRMA survey of NSW voters found fuel prices (56%), traffic congestion (52%) and bad driver behaviour (45%) were among the top three transport and motoring issues leading up to the March State Election.

The survey of NRMA Members found the community supported targeted campaigns to tackle bad driver behaviour (89%) and more police on regional roads (76%). Cost of living and health issues (59%) topped the concerns of voters, with transport (45%) rounding out the top-five issues.

The voter survey has been released one week after the NRMA launched its ‘Rate Your Road’ campaign, calling on the community to rank the best and worst roads in NSW and also have their say on public transport.

A record 20,000 surveys have now been completed and the NRMA is again calling on Members of the community to have their say, with the survey open till Sunday 24 February. The record-breaking survey is accessible via the myNRMA App for Members and on rateyourroad.com.au.

The NRMA has today presented to the NSW Government and NSW Opposition the organisation’s election platform, which outlines a raft of policies designed to save live, boost transport infrastructure and grow regional tourism. Among the policy recommendations are:

- Complete the F6 Extension, Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link projects
- Expedite the completion of major regional infrastructure upgrades including the Princes Highway, the Kings Highway and Barton Highway
- Invest in public transport including Sydney Metro West and Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2
- Dedicate $250 million over the next four years towards regional tourism infrastructure, development and promotion
- Provide free licences to provisional drivers who graduate with a clean driving record
- Commit an additional 200 Highway Patrol officers (newly recruited) to regional areas

NRMA Group CEO Rohan Lund said the record-breaking 20,000 responses to NRMA’s Rate Your Road so far was a clear demonstration that the public was engaged in the state election and wanted to see positive outcomes for their local community over the course of the next term of Government.

“The NRMA’s NSW Election Platform provides whoever prevails on March 23 with a raft of positive and effective policies that build on the work already done to save lives, tackle congestion, help families with cost of living pressures and support visitation to regional NSW,” Mr Lund said.

“The 20,000 responses we have received so far to NRMA’s record-breaking Rate Your Road survey is a clear demonstration that the public is engaged in the election and open to hearing from both major parties about what they will do to deliver for NSW over the next four years.

“If members of the community haven’t had their say yet we strongly encourage them to do so – the results of this survey will be invaluable to the NRMA as we work to ensure NSW reaches its transport and tourism potential over the next four years.”
