The NRMA has welcomed the NSW Government’s announcement to offer significant discounts for people registering caravans and camper trailers from 1 November 2018.

Caravan and camper trailer owners will be eligible for savings of up to $471 off their registration under the new pricing, which will apply a 40 per cent reduction in motor vehicle tax for privately-owned towed caravans and purpose-built camper trailers.

NRMA Parks and Resorts CEO Paul Davies said the savings would help make domestic tourism more accessible for holiday makers and help provide cost of living relief.

“As one of Australia’s largest tourism and transport operators, including holiday parks, the NRMA welcomes this announcement as a step to make local holidays more affordable for travellers,” Mr Davies said.

“Growing domestic tourism could contribute $62 billion in overnight visitor expenditure nationally by 2030, and measures like this help encourage people to make the choice to holiday at home and boost regional economies.

“NRMA research shows caravan and camping visitors spent $1.4 billion in New South Wales in 2016/17, and 92 per cent of that was in our regions. In addition, for every dollar spent in a holiday park $1.38 is returned to local communities.

“The great Australian road trip is as popular as ever, we know that 86 per cent of domestic trips are self-drive holidays. While we have world-class destinations to visit right on our doorstep, there’s no doubt the increasing cost of living is impacting the decisions people make now when planning a holiday.

“Almost half of our Members have told us school holiday blow-outs created additional stress within the family. That’s why we offer a raft of ways people can save on holidays through our Member program NRMA Blue, which can conservatively save the average family more than $800 a year with savings on fuel, accommodation, parking, car insurance, entertainment and sightseeing.”

The NRMA owns a number of Holiday Parks across six states and also owns, SIXT, Manly Fast Ferries, and Hotel Kurrajong. NRMA has also committed $10 million to an electric vehicle charging network to help the next generation of travellers explore regional Australia.

NRMA Blue is accessed via the my nrma app and is free for NRMA Members and has now been extended to those who might not need roadside assistance, but would like to take advantage of the benefits and savings for just $5 a month.
