Migaloo is a super star in the whale world. He's an all-white male adult humpback that has been rather elusive off Sydney. Sydney was very fortunate to see Migaloo in 2014 on his way north, and again in 2017 on his way south. Most recently, he was believed to be spotted off the North Coast of NSW in June 2019.

In 2014 he was part of a so-called "competition pod", which is usually composed of male whales that are fighting for dominance among each other to win the best chance at mating with a receptive female.

Migaloo was first spotted in 1991, passing through Byron Bay. At that time, he was estimated to be around 3-5 years old and thought to be the only white whale in the world. He travels around 4 miles an hour (6.5km/h) and has recently been spotted travelling into the southern part of the Great Barrier Reef Lagoon. He has also been sighted off Cairns and Port Douglas in the past.

It's truly a sight to behold to see 45 tonne whales chasing each other through the ocean. It's even more special to have Migaloo amongst them.
