With all kinds of measures and steps being taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19, many routine tasks have been thrown into doubt. The annual pilgrimage to your local repairer for your vehicles safety check and roadworthy inspection is one of them. Rest assured, the NRMA is here to help you navigate through this rapidly changing world.

How do I get a safety inspection done on my vehicle?

If your vehicle requires it, obtaining a safety inspection (pink slip) is still necessary to register your vehicle. Currently, there’s no restriction on leaving your home to take your vehicle to an Authorised Inspection Station for a pink slip, as the registration of vehicles is a critical government service.

I’d rather not leave the house, what are my options?

Understandably, you still might be a bit concerned about taking your car in, or, you might be self-isolating. In this case, booking with a mobile service provider is a stress and hassle-free way to get a safety inspection done on your car, without needing to leave your house and keeping contact to a minimum. You can check if there is a provider in your area here.

I’ve got my pink slip, how can I register my vehicle?

If you’ve got your pink slip, it’s recommended that you renew your registration online, rather than visiting a service centre.

My car is due for registration, but I don’t need to drive it, what are my options?

If you don’t need to drive your car, you can renew your vehicle’s registration up to three months after the expiry date. The new registration period will start from the date you make the payment, however the expiry date remains the same and you won’t get a full year of registration. This provision has always been in place and is stated on the RMS website here. Remember, it is illegal to drive an unregistered vehicle.
