Artarmon Locals Learn What's Under The Bonnet

Author: NRMA Motoring & ServicesDate: 16 July 2009

NRMA MotorServe Artarmon held a highly successful and very informative Auto Angels course this week - a car care course developed to enhance owners' knowledge of their vehicle.

NRMA MotorServe CEO Owen Gilbert said the free three-hour course was attended by 20 Artarmon locals and was designed to provide them with a basic knowledge of car care.

"MotorServe's Auto Angels workshop provides car owners with more confidence to speak to mechanics and save money on unnecessary repairs," Mr Gilbert said.

"When it comes to maintaining cars and keeping them running safely and efficiently, car owners want the ability to observe the tell-tale signs of car trouble. This can save a major future repair bill."

Participants rotate through different stations at the workshop learning what's under the bonnet and the car, how to look after their tyres and their contact with the road. There are also opportunities to ask questions about their own cars.

Attendee Bianca Couchman said the program was very informative and user friendly and provided her with renewed confidence about taking her car for a service.

Mr Gilbert said that apart from course feedback, some very topical questions were asked at the Auto Angels event.

"Many questions revolved around car servicing to maintain manufacturer's warranty on new cars - an area is where the NRMA has previously found some confusion exists," Mr Gilbert said.

"Last year, an NRMA online survey found that 31 per cent of respondents were unaware that while their car was under warranty, it was not compulsory for it to be serviced at a dealership.

"If the mechanic is an authorised service provider, uses original manufacturer parts and the servicing is recorded in the log books then the car's warranty remains valid."

Members can find out more about their car and how to maintain it by calling NRMA Motoring Advice on 1300 655 443 or visiting www.mynrma.com.au.
