Wollondilly Shire Council will use a $5,000 NRMA Safer Driving School Community Safety Grant to encourage parents and carers of young children to be good driving role models and keep kids safe on local roads.
NRMA Deputy President Michael Tynan will meet with Wollondilly Shire Council and members of the local community this Friday 6 March at 2:30pm to present the grant and discuss the Tomorrow's Drivers program.
Mr Tynan said the Tomorrow's Drivers program reached more than 20 Pre-Schools and Family Day Care Centres within the Shire and the NRMA was proud to support such an important road safety initiative.
"The world is shaped by role models and the eventual driver a child becomes is largely influenced by parents, family and friends," Mr Tynan said.
"Parents in particular are in an excellent position to set a good example for their children."
The Tomorrow's Driver's program uses a series of presentations for parents and carers of young children up to five years old that will be delivered to all child-related services in the local area.
Wollondilly Shire Mayor Cr Michael Banasik said that the program had the support of the entire community.
"Raising awareness among parents of young children of their driving behaviour allows them to identify how to become a more positive role model in the car and make a conscious decision to develop good driving habits and behaviour," Mr Banasik said.
"Early experiences in the car with mum and dad strongly influence the way young kids think about driving and it is these early attitudes that Tomorrow's Drivers will shape."
NRMA Safer Driving School Community Grants help communities develop solutions to local road safety problems. This year NRMA has awarded $100,000 worth of road safety grants to 24 community groups and councils throughout NSW.
Photo opportunity: NRMA Deputy President Michael Tynan, Wollondilly Mayor Cr Michael Banasik and council representatives and will be available this Friday 6 March at 2:30pm. Parents and children will also be present.
Where: Wollondilly Shire Council, 62-64 Menangle Street Picton.

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
