A commitment in this year's Budget to spend an extra $2.2 billion on NSW roads and $4.5 billion on green energy will be welcomed by motorists.
The Australian Government's $1.5 billion commitment to build the F3 to Branxton Link is a significant victory for motorists in NSW.
NRMA Motoring & Services President Wendy Machin said years of hard work by the NRMA, community groups and the public had resulted in one of the most significant publicly-funded road projects in years.
"This is a victory for motorists who have waited far too long for the F3 to Branxton Link to be built," Ms Machin said.
"The link between the F3 and New England Highway will significantly improve freight and traffic flow and bypass the section of the New England Highway between Hexham and Maitland which has the worst crash rate of the entire highway."
Ms Machin said an extra $618 million for the Pacific Highway at Kempsey would help save lives and progress the upgrade of nation's most important road.
"A bypass of Kempsey is long overdue and will get through-traffic and heavy vehicles away from the town centre. This will reduce congestion, save lives and strengthen the economy by improving the delivery of goods along the east coast of Australia," Ms Machin said.
However, Ms Machin said that while motorists would welcome the road funding projects it is clear that NSW had fallen behind other states in planning long-term infrastructure projects.
"Sydney is Australia's largest and most important financial centre and the city's infrastructure needs must be a national priority," Ms Machin said.
"It would be concerning if a failure of forward planning was the reason why critical road projects like the M4 East, M5 widening, M2 to F3 and F6 Extension did not receive funding in last night's budget.
"The NRMA will continue to work with the NSW and Australian Governments to make sure Sydney's pressing infrastructure needs are met as quickly as possible."
Ms Machin said Australia was one step closer to securing a greener, cheaper transport energy future with a $4.5 billion investment in green energy alternatives.
"Investing in green energy is the only way to end Australia's dependence on imported oil and fossil fuels," Ms Machin said.
"Our dependence on imported oil and fossil fuels is harming the environment, hurting our balance of trade and placing Australian families under unnecessary financial strain because of petrol prices that fluctuate due to forces outside of our control."
