NRMA-owned Thrifty Australia has donated a cargo van to Sydney-based charity ClothesLine in a community sponsorship first.
Thrifty CEO Bryn McGoldrick said Thrifty Car Rental was proud to support ClothesLine, which delivers good quality clothing and other essential items, free of charge, to the homeless and disadvantaged on a daily basis.
"Thrifty is proud to support ClothesLine and is committed to helping people in need in our communities," Mr McGoldrick said.
"We got to know the organisation through NRMA Group CEO Tony Stuart who recently experienced first-hand what it is like to sleep outside the comfort of one's own bed when he participated in the St Vincent de Paul CEO Sleepout.
"ClothesLine will use the Thrifty van to help deliver clothing, blankets and other essentials direct to Sydney's homeless and needy. Up until now volunteers have been using their own vehicles, so it's great that Thrifty can help in such a meaningful way in our local community."
ClothesLine is an independent charity that works in close cooperation with Reverend Bill Crews of the Exodus Foundation and SydneyCare to improve the day-to-day lives of the disadvantaged and marginalized.
ClothesLine Chairman Stephen Cowie said the Thrifty van would make many tasks and nightly deliveries to Sydney's homeless and disadvantaged much easier.
"The economic downturn and rise in unemployment has resulted in a dramatic increase in the number of people sleeping in cars and living on the street," Mr Cowie said.
"ClothesLine's aim is to make a noticeable difference these people's lives, by improving their comfort, self image and employment prospects.
"ClothesLine is all about helping disadvantaged members of the community and the support it receives from companies like Thrifty is crucial to us continuing that work."

There are now more reasons to smile. While Roadside Assistance remains at our heart, NRMA Membership now means so much more.
