The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) gives consumers consistent information on the level of occupant protection provided by vehicles in serious front and side crashes.
The program is supported by Australian and New Zealand automobile clubs, all State government road and transport authorities, the New Zealand Government and the FIA Foundation.
There have been minor changes to the test protocols followed from year to year since ANCAP adopted the European New Car Assessment Program (EuroNCAP) scoring system in 1999. More information on test protocol changes...

NRMA safety expert, Mr Jack Haley, said, "The Territory performed well in previous ANCAP tests but the lack of passenger seat belt reminders meant earlier models were awarded 4-stars for safety in 2006."

Other ANCAP results show the recently released Subaru Liberty Exiga and the upgraded 4-clyinder Hyundai Santa Fe also achieved 5-star ANCAP ratings. The Honda City sedan achieved a 4-star rating.
