All about vehicle registration

sample

All motor vehicles must be registered then re-registered annually.

Green slip

There is the compulsory third party personal injury (CTP green slip) which must be obtained before visiting the RTA to complete the registration process. To obtain the best price for a green slip visit the MAA. For more info visit our Vehicle Insurance page.

Pink slip

If your vehicle is over five years old, you also need to get an ‘e-safety check’ (pink slip) as well as obtaining a CTP green slip. There are a number of authorised inspection stations (AIS) throughout NSW. Visit your closest MotorServe or the RTA.

Blue slip

For vehicles that have not continued their registration for over three months, there is a more comprehensive safety check (blue slip) that must be completed before the registration process can continue. Contact the RTA on Ph: 132 213 or find your nearest authorised unregistered vehicle inspection station, (AUVIS).

Transferring registration

If you have just purchased a vehicle and are transferring the registration into your name, you legally have 14 days from the date the vehicle comes into your possession or management before you can face penalties. For the transfer cost, the RTA require the market value or selling price, whichever is the higher value for the transfer fee you will be charged.
