Rate your road

Thank you to the community for setting a new record for the number of votes cast in 2023's Rate Your Road survey. The invaluable data gathered will help us fight for better outcomes over the next four years.

The NRMA

A record 28,292 votes were counted for the worst and best roads across NSW, making it the biggest transport survey ever conducted in Australia outside the Census. Voting commenced in December last year and we closed the survey in February before we first released the results to media in early March.

Parramatta Road at Auburn was identified as the state’s worst road due to congestion and the condition of the road.

The Minns Labor Government has committed $1.1 billion over the next three years to improve New South Wales' roads, with $724 million earmarked for roads in regional NSW.

In addition to this funding, the Minns Labor Government has committed to looking closely at the NRMA's other recommendations to improve the standard of our road network through improved maintenance practices.

Community advocacy works

Previous versions of the survey have led to billions of dollars in funding, new legislation, improved regulations, and commitments for major road and transport projects.

Decades of investment has seen some of the most notorious roads, which featured in previous Rate Your Road surveys, fall off the list. New and upgraded motorways and billions spent on regional highways has seen Pennant Hills Rd, sections of Parramatta Road and the Pacific Highway removed.

At the NRMA, road safety has always been a core focus since it was founded in 1920. And historically, we’ve always played a key role in lobbying government for improvements to our nation’s roads, with a particular focus on NSW and ACT.

Today, this is something we’re still passionate about, with continuous research and campaigning on safety and infrastructure challenges, traffic congestion, public transport and tourism.
