NRMA fast charging Albury
The installation of a new charger at Albury will pave the way for the next generation of motoring tourists to the Riverina region.
The fast charger will allow most EV motorists to fully charge their cars in about 30 minutes. Standard public EV chargers take between three and six hours, and traditional power outlets can take more than 12 hours.
Located in the town centre at the Council Car Park, Level 2, 441 Kiewa St, Albury, the charger is in close proximity to cafes, restaurants and shopping centres. The Albury charging station is the state’s 28th NRMA electric vehicle fast charging station.
NRMA Executive General Manager Motoring Nell Payne said the Albury charger would help improve the future of mobility and contribute to local tourism.
“We are proud to be expanding fast charging in the Riverina region. This charger continues our Hume Highway route enabling connections to Holbrook and Jugiong to the north east. The Albury site will also connect to Wagga Wagga (when built) via the Olympic Highway,” Ms Payne said.
“At the NRMA we know one of the key reasons motorists in Australia have been hesitant to purchase electric vehicles is because they’re worried about ‘range anxiety’.
“In our Centenary year we will continue our legacy of keeping people moving by building this extensive network of chargers to safeguard against that happening.
“Our aim is that 95 per cent of Member journeys are within 150 kilometres of one of our charging stations so they can charge quickly and safely without having to worry about time spent waiting.
“The NRMA is celebrating 100 years by investing in creating sustainable communities and opening the gates to more unique journeys.
“Tourism is a lifeline for regional communities and they need our help now more than ever in the wake of the devastating drought and bushfires. By installing our chargers in regional areas we are ensuring they don’t get left behind and not only survive but thrive now and into the future,” Ms Payne said.
In a move designed to encourage Australians to road trip to regional communities, the NRMA Centenary celebrations will also feature five free family events across regional NSW with one in Apex Park, Wagga Wagga on 18-19 April.
“The NRMA’s Bright Futures tour is a platform to support regional areas. We want people to get in the car and join the NRMA for our road trips celebrations. Bring the family and while there spend some money in the local communities,” Ms Payne said.
Albury City Mayor Kevin Mack congratulated the NRMA for opening its first fast-charger in the city.
“At Albury City, we’re proud to be leaders in sustainability – including the installation of our own electric vehicle charging station at the Albury Waste Management Centre – so it’s great to see the NRMA providing such an important contribution to a cleaner, greener future for our community,” Mr Mack said.
