The NRMA has today been acknowledged as a leader in driving the charge to achieve gender equality in Australian workplaces.

The NRMA is one of only 136 organisations across Australia to be awarded with the Workplace Gender Equality Agency’s Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE) citation, after a rigorous application process.

The NRMA was assessed across a range of criteria including leadership, learning and development, gender remuneration gaps, flexible working and other initiatives to support family responsibilities, employee consultation, preventing sex-based harassment and discrimination, and targets for improving gender equality outcomes.

NRMA Group CEO Rohan Lund said as one of Australia’s largest transport and tourism operators the NRMA was committed to achieving gender equality across its business portfolio.

“We want the NRMA to be a workplace that sets high standards around equality and fairness so this WGEA certification is recognition for our staff, Members and customers that we are on track to building an inclusive and supportive workplace with equal access to all,” Mr Lund said.

“There are limitless benefits to building a business culture around inclusivity and removing barriers and if the NRMA can achieve its goals in this space we will be better placed to deliver value to our staff, Members and the community – it is the ultimate competitive advantage.”

This year the NRMA launched a number of staff-focused policies including a flexible working policy, a paid ‘me day’, volunteering day, paid leave and temporary accommodation to support those in need as a result of family and domestic violence and 18 weeks paid parental leave for new mums and dads.

Mr Lund said the key to NRMA’s success was its commitment to inclusion, diversity and flexibility which has proven to be more important than ever since the pandemic.

“We know that delivering great customer experiences starts on the inside. That’s why we are purposefully building a culture that is richly diverse and where everyone feels like they belong and can work in a safe environment that encourages uniqueness, ideas and experience,” Mr Lund said.

“This is just the first step in achieving gender equality. While we are already leading the way in terms of gender balance at board, executive and senior leadership level the focus now will be on building a strong pipeline of female talent across the traditionally male dominated industries we operate in to ensure a competitive and sustainable future for the NRMA.”

WGEA Director Ms Libby Lyons said: “This year, we are welcoming 17 new EOCGE citation holders who are joining the existing 119 citation holders from 2019-20.

“Despite the tremendous upheaval and disruption caused to Australian businesses by the COVID-19 pandemic, these dedicated organisations maintained an unswerving commitment to achieving their EOCGE citation.”
