The NSW Government has committed $5.39 million to co-fund a further 11 EV charging stations across NSW, with seven in regional locations and four in Greater Sydney. These sites are in addition to the 15 stations already opened in partnership with the NRMA over the past 2 years. The sites are as follows:

Regional areas
  • Bogangar
  • Cooma
  • Euston
  • Kelso (Bathurst) with NRMA Parks
  • Molong
  • Port Macquarie with NRMA Parks
  • Queanbeyan
Greater Sydney
  • Prestons
  • Caringbah
  • Jamisontown
  • Rouse Hill

For the first time, the NRMA will also deliver a battery at many of the locations, taking pressure off the electricity grid. NRMA will deliver four charging bays at each location, two with the capacity to charge a vehicle up to 350kW. Drivers with EVs that have the ability to charge at a higher rate will benefit from faster charging times.

NRMA’s charging network now includes more than 50 locations across NSW servicing the state’s key tourism and transport corridors including the Hume, Newell, Sturt, Oxley, Great Barrier highways as well as the Mitchell, Pacific, Olympic and Great Western Highways.

As Australia’s largest mutual, the NRMA is well positioned to play a critical role in building this infrastructure as the organisation’s business model enables it to make long-term investments which deliver wide ranging benefits to the community.

NRMA Executive General Manager Energy and Infrastructure, Carly Irving-Dolan, said the organisation had a proven track record in partnering with NSW Government to deliver the nation’s largest fast charging regional network.

“The NRMA welcomes today’s announcement from the NSW Government and we are committed to growing our regional network of fast charging stations because regional Australia is at the heart of our organisation and we want to ensure nobody is left behind as we transition to electric,” Ms Iving-Dodd said.

“Interest and demand for electric vehicles in Australia is growing year on year. This year we have seen the greatest increase, with electric vehicle sales up 65 per cent over 12 months. Our Members also tell us they are interested in learning about owning and running an EV.

“Helping our Members navigate a new era of motoring was the exact reason NRMA was created over 100 years ago, and we are committed to again leading the way so all Australians can benefit from the opportunities that will come from this next evolution of global transport.”

To help its Members and the public find out more about electric vehicles, the NRMA is holding a series of EV Drive Days, giving the community the opportunity to test drive a range of EVs and talk to industry experts about buying and running an EV.

The NRMA has now held EV Drive Day events in Cudal, Wagga Wagga and Ku-ring-gai, with all available test drives booking out in the lead up to the events.
