Petrol's slow fall for the long weekend

Regular-unleaded continues its slow price fall with the NRMA encouraging motorists to fill up outside of Sydney if they’re leaving the city for the long weekend.

The average price of regular unleaded in Sydney today is 209.6 cents per litre, which has fallen 12.2 cents since the high point two weeks ago.

Motorists should continue to shop around for the best price with the gap between the cheapest and most expensive service stations now 40.4 cents per litre.

In Sydney, for regular unleaded, there are over 22 per cent of retailers with prices under 203.5 cents a litre, while over 40 percent of retailers have prices above 212.7 cents.

Diesel prices remain high across Australia, with the average diesel price in Sydney 223.7 cents per litre.

NRMA spokesman Peter Khoury said motorists travelling for the long weekend should fill up outside of Sydney where possible.

“While the price of regular unleaded has been slowly falling over the last week in Sydney, motorists should still expect to see prices continue over $2 a litre over the coming weeks,” Mr Khoury said.

“Many communities are hurting across Australia right now with the cost of living crisis. Not only is it expensive to fill up your car at the bowser, but the price of diesel is having a flow on effect to the cost of everyday items”.

“The price of fuel in Australia is continuing to feel the impact of a volatile global oil market, with oil producing nations continuing their strategy of restricting supply to force up the barrel price.

“With school holidays and the October long weekend approaching, the NRMA encourages motorists to shop around for the best price.

Before leaving home to fill up motorists should jump onto the My NRMA app, or the fuel check app for their state to find the best prices where they are.”
