A record 28,292 votes have been cast in NRMA’s Rate Your Roads survey with more than 1260 votes cast for roads in the Newcastle region as part of Australia’s largest Transport survey.

Voting commenced in December last year and the results are being rolled out across the state in the lead-up to the NSW election later this month. Local roads identified were:

Street Name Suburb Reason AVG Score TOTAL Votes
 1 Pacific Highway Tarro Congestion 39 68
 2 Newcomen Newcastle Safety 50 52
3 Pacific Highway Hexham (NSW) Congestion 29 42
 4 Minmi Road Maryland
(Newcastle - NSW)
Congestion 43 41
5 Hexham Street Bonny Hills Congestion 32 39

In the region, Newcastle Road in Wallsend and Lookout Road in New Lambton were rated highly by voters for condition.

NRMA local Director Kirsten Molloy thanked the community for helping to again break the record on the number of votes for its Rate Your Road survey and highlighted that the invaluable data would help the organisation fight for better community outcomes over the next four years.

“The NRMA today thanks Newcastle for having its say on what is a critical issue facing our nation and joined a grass roots campaign to make our roads safer and more efficient,” Ms Molloy said.

“We know a number of local roads that featured in this survey have received funding commitments from Government and this is welcomed.

“The NRMA will spend the next four years ensuring this data helps drive sensible funding and policy outcomes across all levels of Government.

“We know this community-led advocacy works – some of the state’s worst roads no longer make the list because Governments have responded by investing in solutions. This has helped save lives, boosted our economy and got our Members home to their families faster.”
